Kundapur, Aug 22: Srinath Adiga, the prime accused in the Dr Vijayendra Bhat murder attempt case was arrested by police at Adi Udupi on Monday August 21.

He was arrested near a telephone booth at Adi Udupi on Monday by Shankarnarayana police team led by Kundapur circle inspector Valentine D'Souza.

Srinath, a resident of Belve along with one Sadashiv Achar had tried to kill Dr Vijayendra Bhat on latter's car on May 15.  Dr Vijayendra was on his way to Koppa from Koteshwar.  Since Srinath and Sadashiv were good friends of Dr Vijayendra, he had agreed to give a drop to them up to Haladi.  However, both of them had tried to strangle him to death at Madamakki.

When Dr Vijayendra fell unconscious, the accused had driven the car to Sidhapur thinking that Dr Vijayendra had died.  But as they reached Sidhapur, doctor came back to his senses and shouted for help.  But before the locals came to help, accused had fled the place leaving back the car.

During the investigation Srinath revealed that after the murder attempt, he had gone to Kasargod before reaching Mumbai where he worked in a hotel.  He has now been remanded to police custody.  The other accused Sadashiv is still at large.
