Bill to amend securities law introduced in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS): The government Monday introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to amend the securities market laws.

The Securities Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2014 aims to empower capital market watchdog Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) by giving powers such as authority to seek call data records.

An ordinance to empower SEBI to deal with ponzi schemes was promulgated thrice during the previous UPA regime but could not be passed by parliament to make it a law.

The bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

She introduced the bill as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was unwell and did not attend the house.
