New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS): Prime MInister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation two hydroelectric projects and a transmission line in Leh and Kargil region of Jammu and Kashmir this month, Power Minister Piyush Goyal announced here Tuesday.

He said the prime minister had agreed to dedicate to the nation the 44 MW Chutak hydroelectric project in Kargil district and the 45 MW Nimoo Bazgo project in Leh district, as well as an evacuation transmission line.

"Probably next week or the week thereafter, the prime minister will visit Leh to dedicate two projects in Leh and Kargil, as also lay the foundation stone for an transmission line from Leh to Kargil and on to Srinagar," Goyal said at a FICCI organised event on hydropower in the country.

"This transmission line will link the entire region to the rest of India and will open the floodgates of the rich hydropower potential of the region," he added.

The Ladakh region is a high altitude plateau that remains cut off from the rest of the country for vehicular traffic for most part of the year.

The 220 Kv single circuit line from Srinagar to Leh along with 220/33 KV sub-stations at Kargil, Drass, Khalsi and Leh will enhance the reliability of power supply in the region and enable full absorption of energy from the two projects.
