Mangalore, Aug 23: Addressing a press meet on Monday August 21, the Samajwadi Party general secretary S P Chengappa, announced that the unit will stage a protest on Friday August 25, against the bad condition of roads in the district.
Despite the 72-hour ultimatum given by B Nagaraj Shetty, the concerned authorities have not taken any steps towards this end even after a month. Protests from various organizations also have not moved the authorities. Passengers have to put up with the pathetic condition of national as well as state highways, he added.
Chengappa also showed concern as to why even temporary measures to set right the roads were not taken. He opined that owing to the bad state of the roads, tourism is getting affected, as the roads are hardly accessible.
M Mohan, president of the unit, demanded that an administrator be appointed to replace the Mangalore City Corporation and that the road within the city limits be concretised.
Also present were Aboobacker, vice president and Sanjeev Poojari, secretary.
