Bangalore, Aug 5: Volunteers working as community police in Bangalore’s localities will now be registered as SakalaMitras to facilitate the citizens to fill Sakala application forms and help them to register complaints.
Karnataka’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra, who released June month’s report of the Sakala Mission, symbolically distributed the SakalaMitra cards to few volunteers who were registered as Sakala Mitras.
Jayachandra, who is also in charge of Animal Husbandry Department, said about one lakh community policemen would be registered as Sakala Mitras after the training.
Sakala Mitras are registered at the respective District Commissioner’s office after verifying their backgrounds, he said.
The minister said the State Government has decided to cut compensation amount from the employees’ salary from next month to check untimely delivery of services under the Sakala scheme.
Earlier, fine would be disbursed to the applicant from the corpus fund of the Government for the delayed service and then recovered from the employee.
In June, 478 compensation claims have been settled and amount Rs 62,340 has been paid to citizens for delayed service.
Out of 4490 complaints received 4221 complaints have been resolved.
Though garbage disposal, potholes, streetlight maintenance, BMTC bus service and footpath maintenance do not come under the purview of Sakala, the minister said these were among the prominent categories which attracted complaints from citizens.
A total of 8536 out of 14343 non-Sakala complaints have been resolved, the minister said.
In the report for the month of June 2014, Chikballapur has retained the first place while Tumkur continued in the second place, the minister said.
