Mumbai, Aug 6: Veteran Hollywood director David S Wolfe who was in India for the shooting of the film Love and Passion starring actress Anjana B was seriously injured in a near-fatal accident about 50 kms from Chennai city.
He was traveling in an Innova with two other colleagues from the UK when his car was hit head-on by a speeding petrol tanker whose driver lost control of the vehicle and jumped the divider ploughing into the incoming Innova.
The driver of the errant vehicle fled the accident scene but the petrol truck has been impounded by the police. The driver of the Innova in which Wolfe was traveling was killed on the spot. While his two colleagues sitting behind him luckily escaped with minor injuries and bruises, Wolfe who was in the passenger seat next to the driver was seriously injured and was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai.
He - along with the injured were first taken to a nearby government hospital and later on transferred to the private specialty centre when friends who got to know about the accident intervened. Wolfe suffered major fractures to his legs, chest and skull and has been put on a heart-lung machine, sources said. His condition was stated to be critical; hospital sources told a news agency in Chennai. The body of the deceased driver was handed over to his family for last rites.
David Wolfe is the producer and owner of Weeping Shadow Films from Sussex, Great Britain and has tied up with a Hollywood studio for international distribution of Love and Passion. The film is expected to be released in November or December 2014 and was scheduled to go on floor in late August this year.
