Puttur, Aug 24: The Kadaba police in an operation have arrested two persons for illegal cattle slaughter at Madyadka near Kodimbala here in the early hours of Wednesday August 23.

The arrested have been identified as Joeman (23), son of Mathias and Tangachan (33), son of Thomas of Madyadka.  The police had been alerted by local Hindu Jagarana Vedike activists that the accused were slaughtering cattle in a rubber garden belonging to one Augustine.

Accordingly the police raided the shed around 2 am and arrested the duo.  The police also found a slaughtered bullock on the spot weighing 75 kilograms.  It is said that one of the accused Tangachan fled the place as soon as police raided the place.  However, while running in the dark, he fell in a pond and was rescued by the police and the locals.

The sources said that the accused were contacting the customers on Tuesday evening with a view of slaughtering cattle on the same night.  The local Hindu Jagarana Vedike activists, who received this news, passed a message to Kadaba police.

The accused have now been produced before the court.
