Mangalore, Aug 6: Police personnel from Bunder station in the city have succeeded in arresting three persons said to be members of an inter-state gang of motor bike thieves on Tuesday August 5. Six motor bikes were confiscated from them.
The names of the arrested persons have been given as Mohammed Naushad S M alias Naushu (22) from Kumble Seetangoli, Muhammed Faisal alias Faisal (28), resident of Arikkady Colony in Kumble Bambrana, and Abdil Majeed N E (31), native of Rahamaniya Nagar in Chengala Alambady in Kasargod district.
The policemen got wind of the involvement of the gang in motor bike thefts, after police sub-inspector (crime) of Bunder station, M C Madan, came across a stolen motor bike during routine checking. He had grown suspicious above two persons who arrived in a Bajaj City 100 motor bike, and their interrogation revealed that the motor bike they were riding on was stolen.
They were arrested and questioned further. They then confessed to have stolen a number of motor bikes from Mangalore, Puttur, Honnavar, and Kasargod areas during the last three years. They said they had sold these motor bikes to Abdul Majeed from Rahamaniya Nagar, who is a scrap dealer. On the basis of his information, the policemen visited the shop and recovered the motor bikes. The accused were produced in court.
Investigation is now moving under the guidance of city police commissioner, R Hitendra, and deputy commissioners of police, Jagadish and Vishnuvardhan, and direction of assistant police commissioner, K Tilakchandra and supervision of Bunder station police inspector, Cheluvaraj.
