Udupi, Aug 24: Opposing the government's decision to widen the Bannanje-Kalsanka-Kadiyali Road as part of Malpe-Molakalmuru state highway, a huge protest rally was held in the city on Thursday August 24 morning.  The protestors opposed government's decision to widen the road more than 40 feet. They also demanded for a parallel road from Hotel Sharada International on National Highway 17 to MGM College.

The protestors said that owing to the sudden decision of the government to widen the Bannanje-Kalsanka-Kadiyali Road many families living in the houses along the road have been facing evacuation.  Instead of widening the road by 40 feet, the administration is widening it by 80 feet, which is dangerous for all the shops and houses along the route.

They also said that owing to this process, Narayana Guru Mandir at Bannanje, Mahalingeshwara Temple pond, Shankarnarayana Temple at Kalsanka will face problems.  "So the government needs to re-think about the entire process before going ahead with it now," they appealed.

All the shops beside Kalsanka-Kadiyali Road closed their shops on Thursday morning.  Nagarika Samiti president Dr Ammunje Aravind Nayak, Karnataka Janapara Vedike convener Sri Ram Diwana, Wakf Board member Gulam Saheb, U P Kamath, Ammunje Rajesh Nayak,, Sudhakar Shetty, Bhaskar Shetty, Sahanasheela Pai, Uday Shetty were also present during the protest rally.
