Three prisoners escape from Kolkata jail

Kolkata, Aug 8 (IANS): Three prisoners, including a murder convict, escaped from a jail here Friday following which three officials, including the jail superintendent, were suspended, a West Bengal minister said.

Qutubuddin Laskar, Shamim Haldar and Azim Mistry escaped from the Alipore Central Correctional Home by scaling a wall early Friday.

"We have suspended the jail superintendent and two others for dereliction of duty," Correctional Administration Minister Haider Aziz Safwi told IANS.

"A probe has begun and a manhunt has been launched to nab the escapees," Safwi added.

The other two escapees are undertrials.
