Mangalore, Aug 26: The Panambur police have arrested several persons for stealing 17 metric ton of iron from KISCO plant at Panambur near here.  It is said that the persons involved in the case used to transport iron from the company yard illegally.  Since there is news that the company will shortly be closed down, these persons are said to have stolen the iron.

The police booked a case in this regard when one G L Lokesh filed a complaint that 17 metric tonnes of iron worth 3.50 lac which was to be transported to Electrolastic Company in Tamil Nadu, was waylaid and stolen.  The police have already arrested the lorry owner Sharavanan of Andhra Pradesh in this regard.  However, lorry driver Sathish is still at large and the lorry too is yet to be confiscated.

The police also have arrested a few more persons with regard to one more similar case, wherein iron was stolen with the help of KISCO security guards.  The police have arrested Imtiaz, Erickson, Harish, Samshuddin, Kishan and Hanumanth in this regard.  The police have also seized a Maruti Zen car which was used in transporting this iron.  A total of 272 kilograms of iron was seized from them.  Usman, a resident of Ujire who used to buy this iron too has been arrested.
