Jammu, Aug 13 (IANS): An Indian soldier was injured Wednesday in firing by the Pakistan army along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu region.
"Pakistan army carried out unprovoked firing at our positions in Bhimber Ghali area of LoC in Poonch today (Wednesday)," defence spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS.
"Pakistan army started firing at 10 a.m. today using small arms and automatic weapons. Our soldiers gave befitting reply using similar calibre weapons.
"One soldier was injured on our side because of the Pakistan firing."
Pakistan Rangers also violated the ceasefire along the International Border Wednesday in R.S. Pura sector of Jammu district.
Pakistan Rangers fired at three Border Security Force posts in R.S. Pura sector.
A police officer said Pakistan Rangers targeted three Border Security Force (BSF) posts - Pital Post, Kaku-de-Kothae and Tent Post.
"Pakistan Rangers violated ceasefire in Arnia area in R.S. Pura late yesterday (Tuesday) night and early today (Wednesday)," a police officer told IANS here.
"Pakistan firing started at 11.55 p.m. yesterday (Tuesday) night and stopped at 1 a.m. today (Wednesday)," the officer said.
The Pakistan Rangers again began firing at 3 a.m. local time Wednesday. The officer said the BSF had effectively retaliated the firing.
Army and intelligence agencies maintain that firing by Pakistan is intended to facilitate infiltration of armed guerrillas into the Indian side of the border.
While the army guards the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, the BSF guards the International Border in the state.
