Agra celebrates Independence Day with fervour


Agra, Aug 15 (IANS): The country's 68th Independence Day was celebrated here Friday with fervour. Functions with song and dance performances were organised at many schools and colleges.

The heads of central and state government departments unfurled the tricolour earlier in the day.

At the Agra Collectorate, District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar urged staffers to work for the welfare of the people with integrity and commitment.

He also said the younger generation had to be sensitised about the values of the freedom struggle movement. He said the lives of martyrs should inspire all of us.

At the divisional headquarters of the railways, Divisional Railway Manager Vijay Sehgal unfurled the national tricolour, while at the S.N. Medical College, principal Ajay Agarwal did the honours.

Journalists at the Taj Press Club here joined celebrations that included speeches and poetry recitals.
