Bantwal, Sep 4: A group of more than 12 people assaulted two brothers at Farangipet near here on Sunday September 3 night over a flag hoisting issue.

Dawood and Ayub who own a scrap goods shop at Farangipet were assaulted with wooden clubs and sabres on Sunday night when they were going home after closing their shop.  A group of nearly 15 persons who came on a Santro car, a mobile and a Maruti car assaulted the brothers and left them bleeding by the roadside near the fish market at Farangipet.

As a result, both Dawood and Ayub sustained serious injuries and are now admitted to a private hospital at Mangalore. The Bantwal rural police who have registered a complaint in this regard are hunting for the culprits.

It is said that the assault was in connection with avenging some old rivalry.  On Independence Day, a few miscreants had filled in paper pieces in the flag.  When the flag was hoisted, the gathered had come to know about this.  However, this issue was solved amicably later.  It is said that Dawood and Ayub had stood with the teacher who was linked with the incident.  So some sources said that this assault was carried out to settle score with both of them.
