Mangalore, Sep 7: 'Purandara Utsav' was inaugurated in the Town Hall here on Wednesday September 6 evening.

MLA N Yogish Bhat launched Purandara Utsav.  District minister-in-charge B Nagaraj Shetty too was present on the occasion. Corporation Bank executive director K L Gopalkrishna and Karnataka Bank general manager C S Karanth honoured persons who have contributed their mite in spreading psalms of Puranadara Das.

Former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punaroor, deputy director of Kannada and Culture department H C Rangappa, DK Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura were also present on the occasion.

Prof Satyanarayana Mallipatna of University College delivered lecture on linguistic elegance of Purandara Das' creations.

The programme was held under the aegis of Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Kannada and Culture department.
