RJD-Congress-JD-U alliance stuns BJP in Bihar

Patna, Aug 25 (IANS): Just three months after the BJP-led alliance swept the Lok Sabha polls, the new combine of the RJD, JD-U and Congress stunned the BJP by winning six of the 10 assembly seats in Bihar.

Wild celebrations erupted outside the offices of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in particular, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -- on the same road -- was deserted as the by-election results came in.

In a stunning reversal of fortunes, the RJD won three seats, its new found ally JD-U two while the Congress wrested the Bhagalpur seat from the BJP after a gap of 23 long years.

The RJD victories came from Mohiuddinnagar, Rajnagar and Chapra. The JD-U won in Jale and Parbatta.

The BJP, which was confident of crushing the opposition, was declared elected from Hajipur, Mohania, Narkatiaganj and Banka constituencies. Its ally, the Lok Janshakti Party, was routed.

Of the 10 seats, the BJP had won six, the RJD three and the JD-U one in the last assembly elections in 2010.

The Aug 21 by-elections were seen as a litmus test for both the BJP as well as the RJD and JD-U, which came together after two decades soon after the Lok Sabha results came out in May.

The Congress later joined the alliance to take on the BJP-LJP combine.

RJD leader Ashok Kumar Sinha said the victory of the new alliance showed that the "magic of Lalu and Nitish has clicked", referring to former chief ministers Lalu Prasad (RJD) and Nitish Kumar (JD-U).

Nitish Kumar resigned as chief minister in May after the Lok Sabha disaster. A new JD-U government, led by Jitan Ram Manjhi, took power with the backing of its former foe, the RJD.

"The Modi factor has failed," Sinha gloated, referring to BJP mascot and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

JD-U leader Sanjay Singh said the results proved that Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar were right in joining hands again.

"It was the first major political test after the general election and ahead of next year's assembly polls in Bihar," he said. "The alliance of RJD-JD-U-Congress has gained."

BJP leaders in the state were shattered but put up a brave front.

BJP's Syed Shahnawaz Hussain took moral responsibility for the poor showing. Party spokesman Vinod Narain Jha, however, claimed the results would have no impact on the assembly polls next year.

In Bhagalpur, Ajit Sharma of the Congress won by 8,000 votes over Nabhay Choudhary of BJP.

The by-election was caused by the resignation of former minister Ashwani Kumar Choubey, who was elected to the Lok Sabha from Buxar on a BJP ticket.

"It is a big win for Congress," state Congress president Ashok Choudhary said. The BJP had been winning the seat since 1990.

Bhagalpur, an urban centre, was considered a stronghold of the BJP.

If these 3 parties had got all the votes they got in Loksabha 2014 they would have won all 10 seats. This itself shows that so many deserted these 3 parties. In time more will desert them.

Thank You A.S.Mathew. Yes, Modi has formed exclusive leadership with his friends but that is not acceptable to us.

1.Sushma Swaraj openly object to Modi for pm, hardly campaigned for him. But Modi gave external affairs ministry to her!
2.Rajnath Singh announced of not fighting election but he stood and won. Modi gave home ministry to him!
3.Yale university graduate Smriti Irani openly did dharna against Modi on 2002 riots. Modi gave HRD ministry to her!
4.Ram Vilas Paswan left NDA because of Modi and same Modi joined hands with him with ministry!
5.As per BJP, people aged above 70 plus not given ministry. Then how come Nejma Heptullah, 74 given ministry?
6.Why three important ministries to Arun Jaitley rejected by Amritsar?
7.Uma Bharati who had said Modi isn't pro-Hindu is given ministry?
8.5 time popular MP had to give away seat to Paresh Rawal whereas Congress turncoat Jagdambika Pal given BJP ticket. Only Modi can answer this!

Haha haha, idhu yaaru bare dha katheyo, congressgaagi bandha vyatheyo....

Just look at the heading of the news. Congress is counted as second after lulu's RJD in Indian politics. Where is that congress through which Rajiv gandhi took 400 members to parliment one time and look at them today, standing second in line after some regional parties just like beggars outside temples. And it's supporters who once dreamed of enlarged UPA are happy for consolation prise of 4 seats all over India that too with the help of other regional party. Really I feel sad for them that I can't hate them anymore.

Very Funny. To rout BJP All 3 Secular parties joined together and got 6 seats out of 10 and BJP got alone 4 seats. Still BJP is leading compared to all. They don't have the dare to face BJP alone in election. Good thing Modi did not go for Campaign. Otherwise results would be BJP 8 and Others 3 secular parties 2.. :)

The BJP has to see the writing on the wall!

Promising impossible promises-the electorate blindly believing but the final outcome is quite disappointing.

Mr. Modi was elected with a very high majority as if he is the "heaven-sent" savior to solve all the social and economic problems of India.

Even with his good intentions, how one person can do that? The role as the CM of Gujarat and the role as the PM of India are entirely two vastly different roles.

The political wind will blow in different directions in any democratic nation. In India, the food price is the key factor in changing the course of wind due to the fact that when compared with many nations of the world, very high percentage of income in India is spend on food. Within 3 months, the wind started to blow in another direction.

Frustration is only for you guys my friend for another 5 years. Honestly speaking after modi became PM I have even lost interest in these petty politics because we achieved we wanted. Now whatever fekugiri you guys do you cannot come up like before. Modi directly or indirectly is doing all necessary steps to complete congress mukth Bharat. It will very soon come. Your acche din will be o KY limited to these silly celebrations as some landslide results.
Despite not giving much important to these elections by any top Bjp leaders we scored 40% and the remaining was shared between some regional parties. So it's sure who is frustrated congress by tally stands 3 Rd despite an alliance. So without alliance a big zero is what you are. Be ready for another white wash in maharashtra. Till then continue your fekugiri.

By the by champaign is the one you enjoyed when bjpoojariji won a landslide victory with your one lakh lead estimation ( in internal election for tickets). First build your congress to fight as a single party than trying to win through backdoor politics.

congrtas to the third front for leading in the election, one thing no one is noticing the side effect of this . before laaalu was barking against nitish and BJJP, and congress, And nitish was against congress and Lallo. congress people were saying jungle raaj in bihaar. it is clearly visible that these three parties just for power showed they dont have principles. Nitish had some respect from people but he spoiled . Other part of our country people are not fools this time they voted for modi. people will think congress as third front now onwards. And there will be lot of difference of opinions within these 3 parties. And when people of bihaar in future frustates of the rule they will just go after BJP. The status of congress will be nothing and its existence will not be there .

This verdict is a lesson for BJP to be cautious. Now I saw many news channels are showing that Modi wave is sinking .etc.etc.

BJP came in huge victory in May 16.But it should be too aggressive with opposition or minorities.

Keep some ethics in while playing politics. definitely nobody can beat you.

So its a result of lesson for BJP to remove aggressiveness, political revenge etc.

congrats to people of Bihar for rectifying the mistake.

Someone rightly said "speak lies umpteen with 100 % confidence and people would believe it without giving a second thought "

..... and that is what BJP did with their "achche din" lies and the result is before us.

They gave us the pill of Acche din. 1. increased rail fare. 2. increased petrol price 3. Food Price inflation. 4. Pak continue ceasefire violation. 5. Riots in every electoral constituency, wherever bjp is weak. 6. Activation of anti social organisations such as rss,HYS, HJV,bajrang dal.

If you are very happy today just for bypoll results, I could imagine your frustration all these days and also in future.

By winning this bypoll what is achieved? Nothing. Win the main elections and you will get the opportunity to run the government.

Situation of Congress, Lalu & JDU is like a begger who will be very happy by getting "yesterday's smelling leftover rice"...

You also know the fact that bypolls always support the ruling government...

The voters always think better to vote for ruling party so that the newly elected MLA can get something from government...

There is nothing more than this and if you want to score from this bypoll, you are making fool of yourself...

By the way, growing tomato is suggested with pure goodwill & not to score in the argument....

Shame on congis who with the alliance of changu mangus only managed to give some compition to BJP. Anyways its proved that BJp is always and will remain as elephant rest all petty regional parties can do how much ever alliance to face us. We are proud of our might. Bjp doesn't loose much anyways here. Most if the parties have just retained their seats that's all. In bihar it's lallu ullu combination that proved set back to BJP and in south it's jds. Congress is anyways not compition to BJP in India. We will prove it in maharashtra. Congress has to fight with others as usual.
