Karkala, Sep 12: The Karkala town police on Sep 10 caught sandalwood smugglers who were plying on a bike from Ajekar.
On Sep 10 at 2 pm the police received credible information on transportation of sandalwood. The sleuths led by PSI Ujjinappa signaled one motor cycle plying from Ajekar towards Karkala to stop at Banglegudde main road.
The rider stopped the motor cycle and hurled off plastic bags away from the bike and tried to escape. Both the rider and pillion rider were caught as sandalwood was found in the plastic bags.
The bike rider has been identified as Kasim, son of Abdul Khader, Ajekar, Marne village, Karkala.
A total of 7.75 kgs of sandalwood worth Rs 7,750 was obtained from them.
