Karkala: Prakruthi Institution hosts volleyball tournament

Karkala, Sep 2: "While academics increase the intellectual ability of the students, extra curricular activities lead to their physical well-being. In this direction, every student should actively participate in sports and should shine at national and international levels," said V Sunil Kumar, opposition leader.

He was speaking after inaugurating taluk level volleyball tournament for high schools held by Kantavara Prakruthi Educational Institution and Karkala taluk community education department held at the institution's sports ground on Monday September 1.

He said that India was lagging in sports at the international level and called upon students to take extra interest in them.

Udupi zilla panchayat former president and social and justice committee president Irvathur Udaya S Kotian said that sports was an indivisible part of education. He hoped that the students might grow
as good sportsmen in the future.

Taluk panchayat vice-president Malini J Shetty, Kanatavara grama panchayat former president Mohandas Adyantaya, Sanooru grama panchayat president Karunakar S Kotian, block education officer Manmohan H K
and Taluk Physical Education Teachers' Association president Pushparaj Jain spoke on the occasion.

Prakruthi Institution president Crispine Jerald Crasta, management official Ashok Kumar K, director B Padmanabha Gowda, PU college principal Raghavendra Shenoy, Kantavara grama panchayat members Rajesh Kotian, Karunakar Shetty and others were present.

Physical education inspector Babu Poojary gave the introductory address. High school principal Gajanana Bhat welcomed. Vice-principal Veena Shedikaje proposed the vote of thanks. Vinayak Jog and Ramakrishna Hegde compered the programme.
