Puttur, Sep 13: Sirajuddin (32), a betel nut merchant from Uppinangady was hacked to death near Gandhi Park at Uppinangady near here on Tuesday September 12 night. He was on his way back home at Ramnagar, when someone hit him from behind in the dark on Tuesday night.
On Tuesday night the Gandhi Park area was in dark owing to electricity failure. Sirajuddin after closing down his shop was walking home when someone hacked him from behind with the help of an axe. As a result, Sirajuddin sustained serious injuries and fell unconscious on the ground.
He was in a pool of blood for pretty long time, till a local noticed him and passed news to the police station. Immediately SI Ramesh and CI Manjunath Rai reached the spot and helped in rushing Sirajuddin to a hospital in Mangalore. It was in the hospital at Mangalore that he breathed his last in the late night, said sources.
Meanwhile, in a late night operation the police have arrested one Asgar in this regard. Sirajuddin was the brother-in-law of Asgar. It is said that they had some personal rivalry which might have ended in killing Sirajuddin. However, police are yet to release more details about the murder.
