Missing Russian photographer killed in Ukraine

Moscow, Sep 3 (IANS/EFE): Russian photojournalist Andrei Stenin, who went missing in early August, has been found dead after an attack by Ukrainian troops against a column of refugees in eastern Ukraine, the Russian Investigative Committee reported Wednesday.

Stenin, 43, who worked for the Russian news agency Rossiya Segodnya, was killed Aug 6 while travelling by road with refugees between the towns of Snizhne and Dmytrivka in eastern Ukraine, Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said.

Markin added that the refugee column, accompanied by six pro-Russian militants, was attacked by three armoured vehicles of the 79th Airborne Brigade of the Ukrainian Army.

Militia members managed Aug 27 to retrieve the bodies of five people travelling in a car that was destroyed during the attack, Markin said.

The remains were sent to Russian forensic experts who identified Stenin's body, he added.
