Five rebels killed in Philippines


Manila, Sep 4 (IANS): At least five leftist rebels were killed Thursday in a clash with security forces in the Philippines.

According to officials, the clash between the soldiers and members of the New People's Army (NPA) took place in Guinguinabang village in Abra province, Xinhua reported.

The NPA, armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, has been fighting a leftist insurgency in 60 Philippine provinces since 1969.
