NDRF teams sent to flood hit Jammu and Kashmir


New Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS): The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Friday moved its teams to Jammu and Kashmir for relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas.

"Two NDRF teams from Bathinda have been air-lifted to Srinagar today (Friday) and two more teams from Bathinda will be moved to Srinagar during the day," said an official statement from the ministry.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a telephonic conversation with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Twenty people have died in floods across Jammu and Kashmir in the last two days while hundreds of people have been forced to leave their homes due to incessant downpour in the worst such situation in 50 years.
