Mangalore, Sep 17: The house of Manjeshwara Govinda Pai at Manjeshwar in Kerala state will be soon be converted into Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Cultural Centre, Veerappa Moily, chairman, Administrative Reforms commission while addressing a press conference here on Saturday September 16.
The centre will be a joint project of the Karnataka, Kerala and Union governments. Named after the poet's collections 'Gilli Vindu' the centre has been designed by Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Cultural Foundation and will be built on an area of 1.8 acres at a cost of Rs 1.4 crore, out of which the Union government has consented to release Rs one crore. The Karnataka government has already released a sum of Rs 5 lac.
The centre will include art gallery, open theatre stage, indoor theatre stadium, study centres for Yakshagana and folk arts, library, research centres, and other facilities for conducting workshops and symposiums.
Bondala Jagannath Shetty, District Congress leader, B V Kakkilaya, member, Govinda Pai Memorial Committee, Ivan D'Souza and others were present.
