Bangalore, Sep 8: KONCAB – the Konkani Catholic Association, Bangalore, celebrated the feast of nativity of Mother Mary, popularly known in Konkani as ‘Monthi Festh’, with pomp and gaiety at Holy Ghost Church, Richards Town in Bangalore on 8th Sep, 2014. A large number of Konkani Catholics from all across Bangalore, especially from the north-east region of Bangalore had gathered for the Konkani Mass. KONCAB has been organizing the Monthi Festh celebration for several years now.

The Solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Henry Saldanha S.J., along with two co-celebrants Rev. Fr. Lawrence Noronha and Rev. Fr. Assissi Saldanha. As per the tradition, Monthi Festh is also an occasion to thank God for all the graces showered including abundant rainfall and food grains. The new crop was blessed by the priests and shared with all the families gathered. Around 200 children offered flowers to mother Mary as the choir sang “Sakkad sangatha melyam” and “Moriyek Hogolsiyam”. Sugarcane was distributed to the children after the mass. After having refreshments people went home to continue the celebration with their families.
