Absorb Rajeshwar Singh in ED, SC tells government

New Delhi, Sep 8 (IANS): The Supreme Court Monday directed the government to absorb Rajeshwar Singh as deputy director in the Enforcement Directorate within three days following a CAT order.

A bench of Chief Justice-designate Justice H.L. Dattu and S.A. Bobde directed the absorption of Singh, the main investigator in ED probing the Aircel-Maxis deal, on his petition seeking enforcement of the Central Administrative Tribunal order on which the government was dilly-dallying.

Singh alongwith four other officers came to the Enforcement Directorate in 2007. Upon completion of their deputation, the four were repatriated to their parent department, but Singh sought his absorption in the ED.

The apex court Sep 2 declined to interfere with a plea against Rajeshwar Singh going on study leave. The court was told that he was an ace officer who had attached Rs.700 crore in Aircel-Maxis deal.

Not passing any order on the plea by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy, the court noted that Rajeshwar Singh himself said that as and when he would be required in the prosecution of the case, he would be available.
