Demand to open cell for Bengalis stuck in Kashmir


Kolkata, Sep 9 (IANS): West Bengal Pradesh Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Tuesday urged the state government to open an emergency cell for tourists from the state stranded due to floods in Jammu and Kashmir.

"We request the state government to open an emergency cell for rescue of and information about the tourists from West Bengal who are stranded in the flood-hit regions of Jammu and Kashmir," Chowdhury told the media here.

Around 60 tourists from the state are stranded in the northern state. A team of 22 tourists from Hooghly district are still missing.

The Congress MP said his party contacted the Jammu and Kashmir government and the army commanders now monitoring rescue missions in the state.
