Road from Leh to Kashmir Valley open

Jammu, Sep 9 (IANS): Road connectivity to the flood ravaged Kashmir Valley has been restored from Leh region, the military said Tuesday.

This follows the concerted efforts of army engineers and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), a military statement said.

"The connectivity will be a major boost for the ongoing relief operations undertaken by the army in the Kashmir Valley," military spokesman Lt. Col. Manish Mehta said.

The army was mobilizing the existing stocks in Leh to provide essential supplies to the beleaguered valley where about 200 people have been killed by the state's worst floods in half a century.

"The urgent requirement of food, water and medicines will be moved from Ladakh while additional stocks are being inducted via Manali (in Himachal Pradesh)."

The valley has been cut off from the rest of the country for seven days, the spokesman said.
