Delhi BJP meets over government formation, AAP video

New Delhi, Sep 9 (IANS): The BJP's Delhi unit Tuesday called an urgent meeting over government formation in the national capital and a controversial video alleging poaching of an AAP legislator by the party's vice president, sources said.

Presided over by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit president Satish Upadhyay, office bearers and district presidents analysed whether the party was in a position to come to power in Delhi.

"The issue was discussed in great detail and each and every possibility was explored if the party was invited by the Lt. Governor (Najeeb Jung) to form the government," a source said.

Upadhyay earlier in the day said the party was ready for fresh polls in Delhi.

The BJP now has 28 members in the 70-seat Delhi legislature after three of its MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has 27 legislators after one of its members was expelled and the Congress has eight. There are four other members in the house.

Delhi has been under President's rule after AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal quit as chief minister Feb 14 this year.

The BJP leaders at their meeting also discussed ways to not let the video clip on alleged horse-trading damage its prospects in case Delhi goes to polls soon, added the source.

The video, released by AAP Monday, shows BJP state unit vice president Sher Singh Dagar making a bribe offer to AAP MLA Dinesh Mohaniya, whose resignation would have brought down the effective strength of the hung Delhi assembly to 66 and given the BJP an edge to form the government.

An angry Dagar rebutted the video but the party distanced itself from the incident. The BJP has sought an explanation from Dagar while one leader advised him to resign from his post till proven innocent.
