Himachal minister worried over low sex ratio

Shimla, Sep 9 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh Health Minister Kaul Singh Tuesday expressed concern over the low sex ratio in certain areas of the state adjoining Punjab.

The minister said the state government has written to the Punjab government to check illegal ultrasound clinics operating along the Himachal border.

"The people living in the border district of Una cross over to Punjab, especially Hoshiarpur town, to get the sex determination tests done," he told reporters here.

"We are keeping an eye on the border areas and would take strict action if any such case comes to light," the minister said.
