Dengue claims one more life in Odisha


Bhubaneswar, Sep 10 (IANS): The mosquito-borne dengue virus Wednesday claimed one more life in Odisha taking the death toll from the disease to four in the state over the last two months, an official said.

The latest death was reported from Sri Ram Chadra Bhanja (SCB) medical college and hospital at Cuttack, about 25 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, an official of the state health control room told IANS.

The 23-year-old woman who succumbed to the disease belonged to Angul district and was undergoing treatment for the past few days in the hospital, he said.

Eighty new cases of dengue fever were reported Wednesday, taking the total number of those suffering from the disease in the state to 1245, he said.

Of these new cases, the highest 27 have been reported from the worst hit district of Jajpur, followed by Balasore, which reported 14 cases, he said.

While most of those infected by dengue received treatment at their homes, the number of people currently undergoing treatment for the disease in various hospitals in the state was around 123, he added.
