Mangalore, Sep 21: The bidi workers' convention was organised by the undivided Dakshina Kannada district Bidi Workers' Welfare Forum in collaboration with Nagarika Seva Trust at Town Hall here on Wednesday September 20.
The convention was inaugurated by district in-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty. Speaking on the occasion, he promised to address the concerns of the bidi workers and accordingly hold talks with the government and owners of bidi companies urging them to settle the issue of six-day work and payment of minimum wages.
Among those present were Dakshina Kannada ZP former president B Sadananda Poonja, Nagarika Seva Trust president Somnath Nayak, Bidi Workers Welfare Forum convenors Hemavathi and K Vishwanath Shetty and JD (S) state vice-president J S Noronha.
