Kundapur, Sep 22: Thieves who broke open into Mukhyaprana Temple on near the famous Shri Koti Lingeshwara Temple at Koteshwar near here on Wednesday September 20 night have decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth several thousands.

The theft came to light on Thursday September 21 morning when the main priest Haridas Acharya came to the temple.  He found the several gold and silver ornaments that were on the idols of gods were missing.  A few silver tumblers, gold chains, gold and silver crowns etc have been stolen from the temple.  The total value of the stolen ornaments is said to be around Rs 80,000.

It is said that the thieves have managed to gain entry into the temple after jumping off the compound wall.  They have opened the temple door with duplicate key.  While fleeing the place, they have locked the temple.

A complaint in this regard has already been filed and the police have arrived at the place.  Finger print experts and sniffer dog squads too have been summoned the spot.
