Kundapur, Sep 15: A boat overturned at Gangolli estuary here on Sunday September 14, causing loss worth several lacs of rupees. Five fishermen who were on the boat escaped unhurt.

The boat was owned by Kodiya Kushala Mogaveera. The fishermen in the boat were Mahabala, Annappa, Sathish, Krishna and Narayana.

The mishap took place when 'Panchajanya' trawl boat was on its return journey after a fishing expedition and hit the sand deposit at the estuary. Due to the impact the boat flipped and was on the verge of sinking. On receiving the news, other fishermen who were heading home rushed to their rescue.

The boat was brought ashore after two hours of ceaseless efforts by Mohan Kharvi and friends. They used ropes to pull the boat back to the shore.

Due to the impact water entered into the engine of the boat and other parts have been damaged. This is the third mishap in a span of three days at Gangolli estuary this month.
