China issues typhoon alert


Beijing, Sep 15 (IANS): China Monday issued an emergency alert for typhoon Kalmaegi.

The alert was orange colour coded which stands for the second most severe according to China's weather warning system, Xinhua reported.

It is expected to land somewhere between Yangjiang in Guangdong province and Wanning in Hainan province Tuesday, the observatory said.

The centre of the typhoon was located abut 975 km to the southeast of Guangdong, moving at 30 km per hour toward the northwest.

The typhoon is expected to bring strong winds and rainstorms in the region.

China has a four-tier colour-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
