Mangalore: MLA J R Lobo flags off 'Malaria Control Operations' in city

Mangalore, Sep 15: MLA J R Lobo Flagged off the 'Malaria Control Operations' at Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), in the city here on Monday September 15.

The programme was organised by the City Planning Department and Malaria Department.

Gokuldas Nayak, deputy commissioner of City Corporation in his speech said, "To eradicate Malaria completely from Mangalore, MCC is going to visit every construction sites and will be doing the inspection. In a three- day programme City Planning Department, Malaria Department, Engineers and Revenue department officials and in total 11 teams under the leadership of assistant executive and assistant city planning officers would visit different places. There are 71 members in 11 teams and we have provided all sorts of equipments".

Mayor Mahabala Maarla handed over the Rapid Diagnostic Kits (RDT) to the teams and also released the malaria warning pamphlets on this occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Mahabala Maarla said, "From the last four months we have been doing a lot of awareness programmes regarding prevention of Malaria. But it still is not enough. So we have asked the help of everyone. After taking so much of initiation, now we are coming to know that malaria is increasing. Controlling malaria is not only MCC's work but it is the duty of every citizen. If any area is infested with lots of mosquitoes, we are going to shut down that place".

"Every team will be given 5 to 7 wards and 20 to 30 construction sites to inspect. Those who are suffering from various diseases will be given on spot treatment and 13 vehicles are allotted for this operation", he added.

Deputy Mayor Kavitha, Premanand, Manjayya Shetty, Praveen among others were also present on the occasion.

    My honest request to Mr J R Lobo. Please request the Health Minister to make sure that all Hospitals in Mangalore Isolate the Malaria and Dengue infected patients and make it compulsory to use Mosquito protection nets when patients are admitted . The hospital rooms do not even use Mosquito nets and the windows are kept open at night . Now in-case a Mosquito comes inside the room and bites a patient , the Mosquito will easily fly out and carry the infection to the outside area and get other people around that vicinity infected . Most of the Hospitals have mosquitoes in their rooms which I have seen always and no effort is taken to stop this .
