Udupi, Sep 26: A small group of intellectuals are opposing the Hindutva. They only sow the seeds of caste feeling among people, said Prasar Bharathi Chairman M V Kamath.
Delivering a key-note address on ‘‘Hindutva and secularism’’ at MGM College in Udupi, he condemned the belief among some intellectuals that they should be ant-Hindu to prove their secular ideals.
He said since there are few powerful persons among those who oppose Hindutva, their views get highlighted, he added.
Unnecessary controversies had an impact on the for Hindutva movement.
Talking about Tipu controversy, Mr Kamath said some sections of the people are glorifying the fact that Tipu had written letter to Sringeri Math in Kannada and are proving Tipu’s love for Kannada language.
But at the same time Tipu has destroyed several Hindu temples, he added.
Mr Kamath said “I would not say that Tipu was an anti-Hindu but historical facts reveal that he thrust Persian language in the administration at the cost of Kannada.
Any writer or a intellectual eulogising Tipu without going through the historical facts is not doing justice to the history and facts.”
Mr Kamath said one should feel proud to declare himself as Hindu and proud of one’s one culture and tradition.
Madava Pai Memorial College Principal Dayand Shetty presided over the function.
