Former Pak minister Rehman Malik off-loaded by angry plane passengers

Karachi, Sep 16 (NDTV): A mobile video clip showing Pakistani politician Rehman Malik being virtually chased away by airline passengers furious at being forced to wait over two hours for him has gone viral.

The incident took place on Monday when PIA's flight PK 370 was waiting to take off from Karachi. After what seemed to be an interminable wait inside the aircraft for a "technical fault" a passenger was finally able to draw out the truth - the crew was expecting Rehman Malik of the Pakistan People's Party, a former Interior Minister.

A group of passengers then positioned themselves at the entrance, determined not to allow Mr Malik in the flight. "Tell him to catch a bus," sneered one passenger. "Is he god?" said another.

"Malik Saab, you should be ashamed of yourself. You should apologise. You kept 250 passengers waiting," a passenger shouted, rushing forward when the politician approached the plane.

"We have taken it for 68 years. No more!" he said.

Mr Malik can be seen hovering at the aerobridge, trying to argue with the angry crowd that advanced on him, only to be shouted down by a chorus of "We don't care! You are not a minister anymore! Come down to earth!"

He finally turned around and walked back towards the airport.

A passenger commented, "Close the gates and fly this plane to Islamabad. This should be recorded, Rehman Malik has been offloaded. We threw him out!"

The drama was not over, however, as another passenger came sauntering in just after Mr Malik left. When he admitted that he was a lawmaker of the ruling PML-N, all passengers turned on him and chorused, "Shame! You made us wait. Get out of the plane."

Pakistan's national carrier has reportedly suspended some of its employees after the row.

Mr Malik took to Twitter to defend himself, insisting that he never caused the delay.

I congratulate the pax's on that PIA flight from Karachi to Islamabad. A delay of 2 hrs means that the aircraft air conditioners were not switched on. So one could imagine the plight of those on board. This is a lesson for all VVIP's in India as well.

I really appreciate the way the Pakistan passengers handled this situation. They just kicked out the late coming passenger as well as the politician. This has to happen in India. In fact this news was shown to me one of my Pakistani colleague 12 hours back.

I think this is just a beginning. Our Indian politicians are to be treated in the same way, even if the delay is just one minute. Hope it happens in India too. Anyway these politicians must be our servants and not our bosses......!!!!??????

When we were boarded on Jet Airways
to go to Mangalore about 3 years ago our flight was delayed by one hour as the Airline staff were waiting for Shoba then the minister in BJP was late to Board the Aircraft. I think we Indians also should teach a similar lesson to our politicians, if they r late to board the Aircraft in the future. I really congratulate Pakistan passengers.

Sir, how many passengers in the plane will be in trouble due to the delay caused by the late arrival of the Minister? The passengers will have to sue the airlines for monetary damage to stop this uncivilized practice of treating the paid passengers as if unimportant and sub-standard human beings.

While attending college in India, I was sitting at the front of the seat (the old bus with three seats along with the driver at the right side), then the local 2nd class magistrate came and the bus conductor asked me to vacate the seat for him. I told him, the magistrate needs only one seat and I didn't take his seat. The conductor and myself got into an argument and many people came to the spot and the magistrate told me " I need only one seat and you need not have to move". If he forced me, I was not afraid to argue for my rights. What he can do?

Great job Pakis. I appreciate your guts and courage. Just wondered to see when this much noise was going on in the aircraft what the police people were doing! It looks like a security lapse that is why they suspended couple of PIA employees who supposed to call the police instead of watching the show.
