Jhansi, Sep 16: A teenage girl and her boyfriend Vishal have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district for allegedly murdering her grandfather after he caught them sitting together at their house, police said.

According to police, Vishal allegedly strangled Ramdeen, while the teenager allegedly struck her grandfather on the head with a stone used for making rotis. The duo allegedly then carried the body to a well behind the house and threw it inside in an attempt to conceal the crime.

Ramdeen lived with his wife and granddaughter Kanchan in Chhirona village. On September 12, his wife returned home from work in the evening but could not find him. When she asked Kanchan about her grandfather, the teenager allegedly said she did not know where he was.

Family members and villagers searched for Ramdeen throughout the night but failed to locate him.

The following morning, Kanchan reportedly told them that she had seen her grandfather heading towards the well behind the house. The family searched the well and found Ramdeen's body, which bore injury marks on the head.

As Ramdeen was known to consume alcohol, the family and villagers initially suspected that he had accidentally fallen into the well while intoxicated. His body was taken out and cremated, with the death initially being treated as an accident.

The case took a turn after the cremation when family members and relatives began cleaning the house. They found clothes belonging to Kanchan that had blood stains on them.

When questioned about the blood-stained clothes, Kanchan allegedly disclosed details of the incident, police said.

According to the police account, Kanchan was in a relationship with Vishal, who lived nearby. On the day of the incident, the two were allegedly sitting together on a charpai inside the house when Ramdeen arrived and saw them.

Police said the teenager told investigators that the two feared being caught and bringing disgrace to the family.

Vishal allegedly strangled Ramdeen, while Kanchan allegedly picked up a stone used for making rotis and struck him on the head, leaving him unconscious.

The two then allegedly carried Ramdeen's body outside and threw it into the well behind the house.

Following the discovery of the blood-stained clothes, Ramdeen's family suspected foul play and approached the police.

Jhansi Rural Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar said a case was registered after the family reported the matter.

According to Kumar, information was received that the body of an elderly man identified as Ramdeen had been found in a well in Chhirona village on September 12. The family had removed the body and performed the last rites, believing that he had died in an accident.

The SP said the deceased's son-in-law later found blood-stained clothes while cleaning the house, leading to suspicion of murder.

The deceased's minor granddaughter and neighbour Vishal were named as accused, Kumar said.

Police questioned the two accused and said they allegedly admitted to the crime. The weapon allegedly used in the attack has also been recovered, police said.

The investigation is being conducted by Chirgaon police, with further details being gathered about the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing and disposal of the body.
