Malaysia to seek justice for MH17 via UNGA

Kuala Lumpur, Sep 20 (IANS): Malaysian Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein Saturday said that Malaysia will use the platform of the ongoing 69th UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, to seek justice for the victims of the crashed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 that was shot down over the Ukraine.

Hussein said Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, who would address the assembly, would raise the matter with several leaders he would meet in New York, including US President Barack Obama, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Xinhua reported.

"We are on the right platform to demand justice and bring to book those responsible for downing the aircraft. No one can deny us this right. Let's wait for the developments at the UN," Hishammuddin added.

The Dutch ministry of security and justice Friday said that the number of victims identified in MH17 has now climbed to 225.

Out of 14 more who have been identified, seven were Dutch.

Flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down over separatists-controlled eastern Ukraine July 17, killing all 298 on board.

Of the 298 passengers, 196 were Dutch.
