Indian sepaktakraw teams lose Asiad openers


Incheon, Sep 23 (IANS): The Indian men and women sepaktakraw teams had a disappointing start to their Asian Games campaign with both squads losing their preliminary round matches at the Bucheon Gymnasium here Tuesday.

The men's team lost 1-2 to Japan in their Group A match that stretched for two hours and 26 minutes. They took a lead against Japan after winning two of the three games of Regu 1 but were unable to hold on to their ascendancy, losing the first two games of the next two Regus.

They face Thailand Wednesday in their second group outing.

In the women's section, India were beaten 0-3 by Myanmar in their Group B match. The match lasted for an hour and 53 minutes. They won a game in Regu 1 but were outplayed in the next two Regus, losing the first two games.

They take on Thailand in their next encounter Wednesday.
