Udupi, Oct 6: The District Nagarika Samiti submitted an appeal to deputy commissioner with regard to the misappropriation of funds in the purchase of computers to be given to gram panchayats.

The samiti as urged the DC Ponnuraj to take strict action against those who are involved in misusing the government funds.

The government had decided to give a computer to each gram panchayat in order to make the administration better.  However, the middlemen in-charge of distributing the computers are said to have purchased low quality computers while billing them for the best ones.

The reports said that those computers which cost around Rs 40,000 are charged almost Rs 75,000.  A total of 180 gram panchayats are to be given computers.  Already 33 gram panchayats have been given computers.

This indeed is a huge scam and the administration should conduct a thorough enquiry into it, samiti demanded.

Nagarika samiti secretary Nityanand Olakadu, Umesh, Arun and Sadashiv etc were present on the occasion.
