BANGALORE, Oct 7: Breaking her silence for the first time on the Sabarimala controversy, Kannada actor Jayamala has threatened legal action against the president of Devaswom Committee Raman Nair, astrologer Parappanangadi Unnikrishnan and Kerala Minister for Endowments (Mujarai) Sudhakaran for allegedly hatching a "conspiracy" against her to serve their own "vile purposes."
The actor is in the thick of a controversy over her entry into the sanctum sanctorum of the Sabarimala temple. The 47-year-old actress told a crowded press conference here on Friday that she faxed a letter to the Ayyappan temple authorities on June 17. She was forced to go public because the Devaswom Committee and Mr. Sudhakaran were levelling false charges against her.
Releasing a set of documents, she said on May 29, 2000, she told Mr. Unnikrishnan while he performed "Ashtamanagala Prashne" at her house in Bangalore that she entered the sanctum sanctorum and touched the feet of the deity in 1987. She contacted the temple authorities after the media broke the story about "some actress" entering the temple (without identifying her). She faxed her confession to "Lord Ayyappa" addressed to Mr. Panikar. But to her surprise, a Malayalam television channel contacted her to elicit her views about the letter.
