Mangalore: Golden girl Poovamma to arrive in city on Oct 7

Mangalore, Oct 7: Local girl M J Poovamma who won a bronze in the women’s 400 metre race event and gold in the women's 4x400 metres relay title at the 17th Incheon Asian Games is coming home on Tuesday October 7.

Poovamma will arrive at the Mangalore airport at 2.30 in the afternoon. The district administration and Dakshina Kannada Athletics Association will offer her a grand welcome at the airport. District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, sports minister Abhayachandra Jain and Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim will participate in the welcome and felicitation ceremony.

Poovamma will be taken in an open vehicle from Jyothi circle to Mangala stadium.

    Good timely thinking by Mangalorean leaders to honor our only jewel like athletic person in heart of city mind blowing - stop and proceed near City Centre loud band & crackers etc., was nothing less than a festival. Wish Ms.poovamma many more medals and bright future through out Thanks.
