Guwahati, Oct 13 (IANS): Forty-three years after the Bangladesh War of Liberation, a history project is underway to collate facts and documents of the historic events of 1971 which, among others, will record the contribution of people and the government of India.

The India-Bangladesh History Project, led by well-known Bangladeshi writer and journalist Haroon Habib, will document the role of people and the government of India, the governments of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and West Bengal, political parties, the Armed Forces, Border Security Force, organizations and the mass media etc. in 1971.

Habib, who was here Monday, said this while interacting with journalists in Guwahati Press Club.

The project, he said, is supported by the India-Bangladesh Foundation (IBF).

"Under a Central Board of Editors comprising of the eminent personalities in India and Bangladesh, the project will bring out publication of the historical documents in several volumes. Eminent Assamese personality J.P. Saikia, a recipient of the Friends of Bangladesh Liberation War Award, is in the Central Editorial Panel of the project from the State of Assam," he said.

Habib, chief editor and coordinator of the project, requested all concerned persons and organizations of Assam and Meghalaya, which were under the same administrative umbrella till 1971, to extend all possible support to make the project a success.

"If anyone is interested in sending documents or contact for the purpose they can use email id hh1971@gmail.com to contact him in Bangladesh and J.P. Saikia in Guwahati through email id nsaikia.jp@gmail.com," he said.
