Dehradun, Sep 16: Four female students and another individual have been booked in Uttarakhand for allegedly using fake certificates claiming to establish their status as dependants of freedom fighters to secure admission to MBBS courses, officials said.
The alleged irregularity came to light during the verification of documents submitted by the applicants for admission under the freedom fighter dependent quota. Following the findings of the inquiry, the MBBS admissions secured by the four students under the quota were cancelled.
The matter surfaced after a complaint raised doubts over the authenticity of the certificates used by the applicants. Dehradun District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan subsequently constituted a joint inquiry committee comprising the Chief Development Officer and Additional District Magistrate to verify the certificates and supporting documents.
According to the inquiry report, the certificates appeared suspicious at first glance. The committee also found that some of the documents submitted were incomplete, while the addresses mentioned in the records could not be verified.
The inquiry report has been forwarded to the Director of Medical Education, and further action will be taken based on the facts that emerge during the police investigation, the district magistrate said.
Police have registered a case at Clement Town police station against Tripti and her mother, Uma Devi, in connection with the alleged procurement of fake freedom fighter dependent certificates.
Separate FIRs were also registered at Raipur police station against Khushi, Pari and Swati, who had allegedly applied for the certificates, officials said.
Meanwhile, HNB Medical Education University, Dehradun, cancelled the MBBS admissions of the four students after receiving the verification report from the district administration. Director of Medical Education Dr Ashutosh Sayana said the decision was taken based on the report submitted following the inquiry.
The investigation into the alleged use of fraudulent documents is under way.
