Udupi, Oct 21: Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj has urged the people to strictly follow the norms laid down by Supreme Court while using crackers for Diwali.

In a press release he has banned the using of crackers producing sound more than 125 decibels or 145 decibels (that is 4 sound reaching more than 4 metres from where crackers are bursted).  He has also banned the sale of similar substance in the shops.

People are also urged not to crack crackers between 10 pm and 6 am.  So too crackers should not be bursted near the silence zones such as hospitals, schools and places of worship during any part of the day.

Any violation of norms would be taken seriously by the administration and people violating norms would be subjected to strict measures, stated the press release.
