Telangana reduces power holiday for industry

Hyderabad, Oct 27 (IANS): The Telangana government Monday reduced the power holiday for industries from two days a week to one day.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao Monday directed Telangana Generation Corporation and Telangana Transmission Corporation to reduce the power holiday.

The orders were issued in view of the improvement in the power supply position in the state, said an official statement.

The industry bodies had last week made representations to the government, seeking respite from power cuts.

The power holidays are causing huge production and financial losses to the industrial units, especially small industrial units.

Facing acute electricity shortage and to ensure supply to agriculture, the authorities imposed power cuts on industry and domestic sectors.

In Hyderabad, four-hour power cuts are being enforced daily while it ranges from six to eight hours in other towns. The duration of outages are even longer in smaller towns and villages.
