Udupi, Oct 30: At cost of Rs 5.9 crore, the Union Government has plans to start Ayurvedic hospitals in 20 districts of the State, said minister for Health R Ashok.

Speaking after inaugurating the Ayurveda unit allotted to Udupi set up at the Women’s and children’s hospital on Sunday, Ashok said that Ayurveda system of medicine will get a major boost in the state and the state movement too is keen on promoting Ayurveda.

The Ayurvedic unit in Udupi will be upgraded into a sophisticated Ayurveda hospital, he assured.

An amount of Rs 35 lac has been sanctioned to Udupi to open an Ayurveda hospital, Ashok said.

Minister for medical education D V S Acharya, MLA Raghupati Bhat and district surgeon Dr Dayanand Nayak were present.
