Udupi, Oct 31: An investors’ meet will be held in Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts in December, with the aim of promoting industrialization, informed Katta Subramanya Naidu, minister for large industries, at a press meet here on Monday October 30.
The coastal districts have been selected for investments in various sectors like automobile industries, jewellery, IT, tourism, bio-technology (BT) and readymade garments. Owing to difficulties in acquiring land, industrialists are shying away from setting up industries in coastal districts, he said.
But some major industries like Prestige, Shobha Group and Ananda Group of Chennai are planning to develop a private port and a port city at Karwar, on 25,000 acres of land, which will provide jobs to several people. The port will be set up on the lines of Singapore. It will also enhance exports and tourism.
Skill Development Training Centre will be started in every district, wherein the government will train nearly 1,000 youth in life skills. It will plan to train 500 youth in every district by IT and BT institutes, he said.
