Bengaluru: Eshwarappa stokes controversy with remark on rape

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Nov 8: Yet another remark on rape has been made. This time the insensitive remark was uttered by former deputy chief minister and leader of the opposition in Vidhana Parishad K S Eshwarappa on Friday November 7.

“I do not think the home minister or the chief minister considers everyone as their own. Maybe when their own daughters are raped they might act differently,” is what Eshwarappa said.

“They are not treating the victims like their daughters. The society will not tolerate rapes. How do you deal with this insensitive government? I do not know how to make them realize. The CM and home minister should give importance to women safety,” Eshwarappa added.

Shortly after this insensitive statement of the senior BJP minister, chief minister Siddaramaiah hit back and said, “Eshwarappa is an uncultured man. His words show his attitude and culture. He should remember that he is a senior leader before opening his mouth like this. A person's speech should befit his position and dignity.”

State BJP chief Prahlad Joshi speaking on this issue said, “BJP does not accept a statement like this. I know the situation in Karnataka. But Eshwarappa should not have talked like this. The daughters of CM and the home minister are like our own sisters. I feel sorry for this statement. ”

Subsequently, the BJP leader fell into an eye of a storm as he turned personal on rapes as the Congress workers launched a protest outside Eshwarappa’s residences in Bengaluru and Shivamogga.

Meanwhile other political parties outside the state also criticized Eshwarappa’s remarks. DMK leader TKS Elangovan said, “These are all comments out of anger & desperation, we shouldn't give importance to this.”

The social activist Abha Singh reacted sharply over Eshwarappa's rape remark and said,
“Rape is a serious offence, it should not be politicised by the politicians, I condemn the statement.”

The remark came at a time when Bengaluru is reeling from the spate of sexual assaults in schools.

Cong protest against KSE remarks

Shimoga, Nov 8 (DHNS): Members of District Youth Congress Committee protested in front of BJP leader K S Eshwarappa’s residence at Malleshwara Nagar also known as Gundappa Shed here on Friday condemning his insensitive remarks against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K J George.

Eshwarappa had reportedly said in Bangalore that the home minister and the chief minister would not take any action even if their daughters are raped.

The protesters urged the BJP leader to withdraw his remarks and apologise to the chief minister and the home minister in public. He should not have used such a language being in a responsible position. It shows the culture of the BJP leaders, they said.

Police rushed to the spot and arrested 30 activists of Youth Congress and released them later.

BJP seem to be suggesting to carry a vedio camera inside every bed room. Then some MLA's can sit in parliment to watch and check if it qualifies rape.

Rape is unjustifiable act. But any Govt., can act only after the incident. If it does not act, then there is a reason for public anger.
What Eshwarappa is suggesting is to stop a rapist from rape. In that case every male has to carry a vedio camera. Because nobody knows who will end up as a rapist, we have even some people from respected professions like teachers, doctors etc turning out as rapists.

    Dear Eshwarappa,

Why you were not interested in the murder case of Saujanya? You should have asked your Home Minister Mr. Ashok and CM Yeddy at that time and asked same question to them that is asked to the present CM and HM. Why you are showing your double face and double standard? In fact the present CM and HM are doing their work without partiality. There are no single allegations the. In churches destroying cases also you have not done anything. Simply don't put your mouth in this case. The present government is doing extremely well.

    A possible angle:
The police or whoever else who should act on crime, may be sympathizers of BJP, and they are indirectly ensuring that Congress gets a bad name, thus there is enough momentum to seek a change!

While crime is not acceptable, Eshwarappa taunting CM and HM for inability of the field force is not logical. Can they bring a new law? Can they hang the caught once without proper judicial process? Can they personally watch over every lose guy?

I do think they have given instruction with total commitment to the field personal and even the field people are trying. The problem is our population is hormonally (morally) imbalanced and this population is from our homes, what are we doing at HOME? Are we not rearing RAPISTS? Can we sit and do some introspection? Those who cry the loudest, I can assure have no solution in their mind also. When they come to power, either the situation will continue, or the trouble makers due to their attachment to BJP, will hold their hormones in check. I am sure this is either an agenda to bring bad name to the government or morally lose family people (father mother, son wife included) will continue in our society, irrespective of the government in power.

What Eshwarappa said is not correct and moreover give the police dept a chance let them investigate the matter throughly. Please do not jump to conclusion and give irresponsible statements. Law has to be strictly announced from Central govt there are so many rape s happening in delhi under the nose of CGovt what are they doing there. So please let the police team investigate such matters take time and the conclusion will also be successful so in haste please do not unsettle the matter.

Eshwarappa's words are wrong but the message is clear. Congress, instead of criticizing him, should ask the government to take enough action in preventing rapes in Karnataka.
The inaction and laid back attitude of Karnataka Govt. gives enough courage to the animals in human disguise to carry on with their actions.

Childish statement by ex DCM. Surely we need more security for woman. It does not mean that government can keep track of every man with bad intentions. Who knows who's intentions turn bad? So, govt. can not have a policeman behind every Male. Only thing what can change the situation is tougher laws and harsher punishments. But, those without brains will still commit crimes.

What Mr.Eshwarappa said against CM & HM on angrily is correct. There is no controversial issue to be raised against Mr.Eshu because the same CM once he said against our PM as NARAHANTAKA. As congress people when they can say, why not he or opposition leaders?

Eshwarappa’s statements are not insensitive they are absolutely right. If strict action was taken after first such incident came to light, there would not have been repetition and political mudslinging we see today. Our politicians are insensitive to the pain of the common man, unless they can derive some political mileage out of it. However, Eshwarappa has no moral right to make such a statement only a common man has, because when it comes to crimes, every political party sails the same boat – while in power or not.

Even though, I am a supporter of Congress, but here what BJP leader Eshwarappa said requires some introspection by CM an HM of Karnataka.
    Quote:
“I do not think the home minister or the chief minister considers everyone as their own. Maybe when their own daughters are raped they might act differently,” is what Eshwarappa said.

“They are not treating the victims like their daughters. The society will not tolerate rapes. How do you deal with this insensitive government? I do not know how to make them realize. The CM and home minister should give importance to women safety,” Eshwarappa added
    Unquote:
BJP leader Eswarappa has already spoke from his heart and conveyed strong message to CM and HM of Karnataka. Leaders, wake up and ACT.

An uncivilized comment by an illiterate politician who has never spoken sense at any point of time. It needs to be thoroughly probed as to why is rape takes place only in Congress ruled states? It happened in Delhi and now in Karnataka. Is there suppression of information on such mishaps happening in other states? Who will unearth the truth?
